Rebecca’s baptism

Rebecca is a beautiful ruddy baby girl born on March 18th, 2017 from Kingsley and Blessing, two Nigerian guys hosted by Project Itaca. Excited and happy, they asked to the priest of the parish church of Germanedo in Lecco to baptize their baby as they are practicing Catholics long before her birth

And suddenly we found ourselves in an African village

Klaus and Arianna are two volunteers. They put themselves out there with passion in order to teach Italian daily life to asylum seekers. They use gestures, words and different ways of communication. In this way, they want to make asylum seekers closer to local community in which their reception facilities are.

Experiencing questions in a school!

We’re in a little town, in a secondary school made of 13-year-old guys. Many personalities emerge from their eyes: positivity, emotion, doubt, prejudice, feelings that arise from news mainly heard on the tv or gained through debates in their belonging family. The topic is wide and turbulent: immigration.

Birthing classes

I went with five Nigerian girls and one Eritrean girl to birthing class organized by ASL. What impressed me most? The simplicity by which they face it; they continue repeating people should not prepare too much!

A mom’s word!

Two cultures, two countries, but only one thing in common: a mother that sees a lost child and decided to take care of him. Laura is a mother that noticed a far-searching-eyes little girl. She was taking her children to school that morning. She met this child that could not communicate with other children because she didn’t speak the same language. She felt “a feeling in her belly”. Then, she came closer to her.

From kid to kid

"Since a few weeks there’s also a cultural mediator who helps us when it’s too hard to communicate with her. We meet Salim more and more often: in the morning, we’re always in a hurry to pick her up at her place, and we have a great time trying to teach her some Italian words on our way to school."

Dancing for Sankara

Aboubacar is a 26-year-old tall guy from Mali, who comes toward us swinging his long arms, a bit shy, a bit perplexed, to tell us about his experience with the theater company “Piccoli Idilli” in the project “Without Sankara”.

This way! Direction summer camp in Rossino/Erve

Djibril, Yunus and Oumar tell their summer to the oratory of Rossino/Erve on the "Camminiamo insieme" news pages, telling what they have learned, were able to convey: a special journey lasted 3 weeks during which integration has been very important.
