On Saturday July 8, the boys hosted by our reception centre in Valmadrera cooperated with CasAmica and Germanedo district (in Lecco) volunteers. The purpose was to upgrade a natural area near Via della Rovinata in order to create a new playground and a picnic area. In this way, both the people living in the district and the CasAmica patients with their families will enjoy some peaceful moments in this area.
On Friday, June 30 all the boys living in Ballabio organized an ethnic dinner to celebrate the end of the scholastic year and the beginning of summer lessons and, also, to say goodbye to Pem, their operator, who in going to work to another camp.
Last June 27 football became, as it usually happens in Italy, a mean of communication between a group of Italian boys living in Calco (LC) and a group of asylum seekers from Calco hosted by Progetto Itaca.
The operating protocol aimed to facilitate the asylum seekers’ integration on the territory of Valmadrera begins today. It will take place by carrying out community service led by the Comune di Valmadrera in collaboration with the Parish, Progetto Itaca and the Centro Farmaceutico Missionario.
We said them: “Let’s show us simple daily moments here in Italy!”. So, they produced a fabulous outcome with the support of teachers, mediators, operators and volunteers. We saw their work during the World Refugee Day in Lecco, 25 June 2017.
Progetto Itaca promtes integration into the school environment for kids asylum seekers. Indeed, small and proactive environments for helping these migrants hosted are favoured in our Lecco's facilities.
Referring to the living issue, we took the witness of three asylum seeker hosted in our centre for families and single women with or without children, we supported them in reflecting upon living in one place that can become a home and so a living place.
Some asylum seekers hosted in Progetto Itaca have taken part in “One Step at a Time” walking. Liceo Volta in Lecco has organized this event as a cultural symbolic moment and as a meeting between migrants and Lecco inhabitants.
